Level A2 - True French-English Cognates
Learn how to pronounce more than 300 words that are spelled exactly the same in French and English!
Level A2 - True French-English Cognates
When you're learning a new language, a cognate is an easy word to remember because it looks and means the same thing as a word you already know. For this reason, recognizing cognates in written form is very easy. Though these words look alike and have the same meaning, the pronunciation is often very different. This can make it difficult to spot them while listening.
In this lesson, you will greatly increase your vocabulary in French by learning more than 300 true cognates. Pronunciation of each word is included, as well as a text to listen to while trying to identify as many cognates as you can.
➯ Alphabetical lists of cognates
➯ Audio recordings of all cognates according to alphabetical lists
➯ French and English text including 36 cognates
➯ Audio recording of cognates text
STEP 1 - Download alphabetical lists of cognates
STEP 2 - Listen to audio recordings of the list you're working on until you work your way through all of them. Pay close attention to the French pronunciation.
STEP 3 - Listen to the audio recording of the cognates text (don't read it yet). As you listen, see how many words you recognize that are the same in French and English.
STEP 4 - Download the cognates text and read along as you listen to the audio again.
