This is an upper beginner level French listening comprehension course. Ten lessons are included for a total of 2.5 + hours of video instruction. Each comprehensive lesson includes French grammar unique to the A1 level (see grammar specifics below).
This is the French course for you if you have studied most of the grammar on the list below and you need to practice putting it all together. Maybe you have some knowledge of French grammar, but you have difficulty creating solid sentences. In this course you will learn a lot about all of those "extra" words that pop up everywhere in French.
Each lesson covers a different theme, but the grammar used is repeated in different contexts lesson to lesson all the while adding new elements from the list.
In each lesson:
- Jennifer does a first reading of the text on video
- Jennifer asks 5 comprehension questions and you begin to answer
- Jennifer does a second reading of the text on video
- Jennifer shows you the 5 comprehension questions in written form and you finish answering
- Jennifer goes over all 5 questions and answers with you
- Jennifer leads you through a comprehensive grammatical analysis of the text
Each video lesson lasts approximately fifteen minutes. PDFs of the texts in French with English translations as well as the 5 listening comprehension questions are provided for you to print out and perhaps take notes on as you take each lesson.

Bonjour! I'm Jennifer, and I’m an American French teacher living in the South of France. My native language is English, and I speak French fluently. I love to travel, and have led guided tours in 15 countries in Western Europe with my former students from the United States. I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and French, then taught French for a year and moved to France for a year before pursuing and earning a Master of Arts degree in French. I taught French at Saint Louis University High School, a Jesuit college preparatory school for young men, for 14 years. In the summer of 2013 I relocated to France with my family, and spent the summer working as Dean of l’Académie de France in Montpellier, a French immersion program for teenagers from around the world. A while before relocating to France, I began teaching French online via Skype. I am now teaching French online full time and I also give immersion classes and guided city visits in both languages in Béziers, France.
It’s my job to guide you and help you along on your journey to learn French. Learning should be fun, and I will make sure that enjoy yourself as you improve your listening, writing, reading, and most importantly your speaking skills. Over the years I have developed many creative strategies to guarantee your progress. All students have different learning styles, different strengths and weaknesses, and different levels. One of my first jobs as your teacher is to provide you with an approach that will suit your learning style so that you will get the most out of your classes as possible.
